Conference summary: The objectives for this event, agreed by the steering committee, were: • To introduce passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) and the PAMGUARD project to a broad audience of stakeholders, including marine mammal observers (MMOs), PAM providers, regulators, and developers. • To provide initial training and an introduction to the PAMGUARD software for users such as PAM operators, MMOs (and others) and for developers. This would also allow the team to receive, collate, and eventually incorporate their feedback. • To initiate and guide discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of using PAM with different species and in different situations. • To discuss areas for development and contribution from other PAM software developers within the open source framework of PAMGUARD.
